Therefore, cell phones have a significant impact on the lives of Americans, given that only about 4% of the American population does not own the gadget. A large number of cell phones users has therefore resulted in adverse effects like head and neck injuries (Povolotskiy et al., 2020). The injuries have become part of the emergency concerns with a growing number of patients suffering from head and neck traumas. Moreover, the issue has caused a significant public health challenge. The National Electronic Injury Surveillance System (NEISS) record shows that between 1998 and 2017, the number of individuals diagnosed with head and neck injuries was 2501, with the distribution in gender almost equal. Slightly above one-third of the patients presented to emergency departments comprised people above 13 and below 29 years (Povolotskiy et al., 2020). From the data, it is estimated that the number of affected people nationally is about 76043, with females more prevalent. Additionally, the prevalence rate has had a steady increase since 2007. The evolution of technology and the introduction of smartphones are among the contributors to increasing injuries related to cell phone use. Smartphones have increased features creating more distractions compared to early mobile phones. Also, many accidents are associated with cell phone use while driving or by pedestrians leading to physical injuries like dislocations and fractures (Povolotskiy et al., 2020). Moreover, negative psychological influence occurs as a result of lacerations from the accidents. Internal organs like the brain are also injured, leading to risks of other conditions like post-concussion syndrome. 3 Individuals aged between 13 and 29 are more likely to suffer from distraction-related injuries causing more attention toward educating adolescents against cell phone use such as driving and walking. Therefore, more suggestions on mitigating the negative impacts of cell phone use are targeted at educating the public on the safer application of mobile phones (Povolotskiy et al., 2020). Public education will enable people to know the dangers associated with cell phone use while performing other tasks such as competition for attention, reducing overreliance. Opinion on Summary and Topic The advancement in technology has brought many positives, such as faster communication through smartphones. People can also interact through various online platforms with peers across the globe with real-time responses. Also, businesses, education, and other essential activities in life can be facilitated through cell phones. However, the overreliance on gadgets has increased people’s time on mobile phones leading to more health concerns. Like America, the entire world has also suffered from the number of people owning cell phones increasing as they become readily available. Distraction is the main challenge concerning cell phone use on a daily basis. For instance, smartphones have many functions like games that take the user’s attention, making them unaware of their environment. Therefore, if one plays a game while walking, there is a high risk of physical injury due to accidental collisions. Similarly, text messages or phone calls may distract drivers, resulting in loss of control, injuring drivers, pedestrians, pedestrians, and passengers. Additionally, cell phone use daily leads to the fear of missing out, making people anxious and distracted, exposing them to dangers from their environment. The increasing cases of patients reporting to emergency departments due to injuries associated with cell phones require appropriate prevention mechanisms. For instance, the risk population needs to be educated on ways to self-regulate and reduce time spent on the 4 phones. Additionally, implement policies to prevent mobile phone use while driving, such as stiff penalties on violators. This way, the danger of cell phone use, like head and neck injury, is prevented. 5 Reference Povolotskiy, R., Gupta, N., Leverant, A. B., Kandinov, A., & Paskhover, B. (2020).
